Welcome to the Department of Art at Lipscomb University
A career in the visual arts is one filled with creative challenges and endless opportunities. It speaks to the power of art that students enter academic programs every year and continually embrace these very challenges and opportunities in order to better themselves, to influence others, and to leave their mark on the history of art.
We too as a faculty welcome those challenges and opportunities and have dedicated ourselves to the shaping of young artists intellectually and spiritually. In our methodologies and professional practices, our professors foster a love of learning and a strong desire for the creative process. In the classrooms, we teach solid artistic foundations, principles, and histories; yet, it is also important that we encourage students to pursue their unique and individual approaches to art. It is through this balance of study and exploration that our students attain a comprehensive, artistic maturation while equally discovering what it means to be a Christian existing in the contemporary art realm.
On behalf of our department, I look forward to introducing you to the traditions of the past and to the experiences that await you in the future.
